The 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43: 402 hp of pure pleasure

We often hear the terms “mild hybrid” or “48V hybrid” when discussing a car’s ability to reduce emissions by having the system do some of the work that the gas engine would normally do. Let’s not forget, however, that it can be a big add to a car’s driving performance as well.

In the all-new Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic, for example, the 48V system is used to power the turbocharger attached to its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. As is tradition, the turbocharger also uses burnt exhaust gasses for power but that’s supplanted by electric tech to provide even quicker response across the entire rev range.

On paper, this translates to 402 horsepower that can be boosted by 13 hp in certain driving situations for a short time and 369 pound-feet of torque, making this the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever seen in a production Mercedes.

More so than just adding all that power, the e-turbocharger system allows smoother progress by more quickly spooling the turbocharger by driving the turbo shaft directly for even more robust response and reduced turbo lag. The electric assistance allows the turbocharger to maintain boost pressure even when the driver lifts their foot off the throttle. It also means higher torque at lower revs, contributing to faster acceleration and more fuel-efficient progress, to the tune of less than 10L/100 km of fuel usage in the combined cycle.

As if that weren’t enough when it comes to the new C 43’s drivetrain, its cylinder linings are coated with Mercedes’ F1-derived NANOSLIDE technology to reduce friction and increase durability.

It all comes together to provide a 0-100 km/h if just 4.6 seconds, on to a top speed of 250 km/h, 260 km/h if you add the AMG Driver’s Package.

This incredibly quick C 43 with F1-derived technology needs to be seen to be believed, so come pay us a visit!
