2022 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 represents the perfect balance of performance and refinement

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 sits between the GLC 300 and the top-of-the-line Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC lineup. Offering significantly quicker accelerations and improved performance over the entry-level GLC 300, the GLC 43 isn't as extreme or powerful as the GLC 63. In other words, far from a compromise, the GLC 43 may just represent the perfect balance of everything that has made the Mercedes-Benz GLC so popular in Québec.

2022 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43: AMG-worthy accelerations and performance

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 is powered by a 3.0-litre biturbo V-6 that puts out an impressive 385 horsepower and an equally stout 384 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT nine-speed automatic gearbox which transfers the ample horsepower and torque to all four wheels through an AMG-specific 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

2022 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43

The GLC 43 has 130 horsepower more than the GLC 300, but only 84 horsepower less then the GLC 63. That means that the GLC 43's performance is much more reminiscent of the high-powered AMG GLC 63 model than the base GLC 300. Another way to look at it would be to say that there is a significant difference in personality and DNA between the entry-level GLC 300 and the GLC 43. The GLC 300 is no slouch, and it isn't slow, but the GLC 43 definitely ups the performance with a 0-100 km/h time of just 4.9 seconds, zero hesitation across the rev range, and a very distinct and sporty soundtrack coming from the quad exhaust in the back.

For sports car enthusiast, the sound of the AMG-enhanced engine is one of the highlights of the GLC 43. In the sportiest driving modes, the GLC 43 sounds remarkable without ever being overbearing. More importantly, the GLC 43 delivers its outstanding on-road behavior without ever compromising on comfort and refinement onboard.

This is what differentiates the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 from the GLC 63. Although the latter is an absolute beast in terms of accelerations and it is definitely louder than the GLC 43, it is also a lot sportier with a stiffer suspension and larger wheels that have a more difficult time filtering out road imperfections. In simple terms, for some consumers, the GLC 63 may just be too much while the GLC 43 is just right. And with a starting price of just under $73,000 (preparation fees included), the GLC 43 is much more accessible than the 63 despite not being too far off in terms of performance.

When you put the AMG GLC 43 in one of the more comfort-oriented driving modes, you find a very refined and smooth SUV that offers 1,600 L of cargo capacity behind the front seats, a lot of rear space for your passengers, and the latest safety and connectivity features including the MBUX infotainment system, one of the most advanced in the industry.
